Thanksgiving 2005
Thursday 24 November 2005

Every year the McGiffin clan (i.e., Josh's Mom's side) gathers at Josh's House for Thanksgiving. Every now and again friends will stop by. This year we had Phil, present at most events in the world, as well as Carey and his girlfriend Mariska.

Attendees: Josh's immediate family, relatives on the McGiffin side, Phil Dake, Carey Fisher, and Mariska Taylor.

Phil has to keep in shape somehow Phil has made a sport out of mixing drinks and minors.

Heck, it's not really a sport so much as an Olympiad.

Poor, poor young Carey.

Phil is a master of high society on the condition that he doesn't have to wear a tie Phil is nothing if not a gentleman, raising a toast to his good fortune on your behalf. Cheers!

She handled it well and appreciated my hat Carey brought Mariska along. Sometimes I pity the newcomers when they're tossed into the madness for the first time.

I hope that nobody that Carey hopes to date reads this page Unfortunately they broke up a few months later.

That they're no longer together at the time of this writing -- eleven months afterwards -- attests to my complete and total slackness on getting this gallery online.

That Carey's had a half dozen other girlfriends in the meanwhile attests to his lack of commitment.

Basically nobody wins.

Everything's gone mad in the universe! I don't know what's going on here, but it probably involves infusing mudslides with the Space-Time Continuum. It's all wonky now.

Josh's Grandfather Here's Josh's Grandfather, Gene McGiffin, a veteran of the Second World War and Korea. My interests in the military its history came from him. Not only by his experiences during wartime but also his huge library, always the envy of me while growing up. In fact, he helped my own library get started because he was always trying to thin his out a bit.

Josh's Grandmother And here's Josh's Grandmother, Marveline McGiffin. A skilled painter and glass mosaic artist, much of my artistic creativity stems from her direction. Basically she got Josh's Mom into art, who passed on a load of art supplies for me to play with growing up. Likewise, her paintings have decorated our house my entire life, so there's always been that inspiration.

Her experience with glass was invaluable during the work on the two frogs.

The truth about Thanksgiving -- Click for larger I drew this cartoon to represent the mangled modern view of Thanksgiving. Nobody really knows what it's about anymore, turning it into a bizarre amalgamation of Indians and turkeys all waving flags.

Sometimes it's good to be a history student.
