RiffTrax Live Christmas Shorts-stravaganza
Wednesday 16 December 2009

Last August we drove up to Canton, Michigan to see the Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, late of Mystery Science Theater 3000, riff on Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space. The technology that allowed them to broadcast live to theaters around the nation from out of Nashville was impressive and maybe it was inevitable that they would do it again.

That they did, on 16 December, this time beaming their riffs on a whole slew of Christmas shorts from the Escondido Center for the Arts in San Diego. Charles, Carla, Felicity, Paul, and Josh returned to Canton to see the live riffing once again.

No moustaches this time, but I suppose we can get along all the same.

There is nothing better than distracting the driver. This is the best car game ever.

Trapped in the backseat with Felicity can drive a fellow to desolation and paranoia.

Did you know that Felicity excretes a light mint glaze? It's totally true.

Now if there were only some way of knowing that we were in the right place...

Or what season this is for that matter.

Leaving the theater through its entrance. Paul has never been a man to play by the posted rules of life.

You know what the first person in the car is, right? They're the winner and Carla has clearly won this round.

Josh's life is a whole series of tiny harassments. But that's what's made him resilient.

And so we depart Michigan, not with heavy hearts or tearful eyes, but with a frank and hardy "wouldn't wanna be ya." Adios, Michigan.

Our cordial hosts and riffers: Kevin Murphy, Mike Nelson, and Bill Corbett, who got to be in sunny San Diego while we rushed around dark, cold Michigan.
