JoshFest: 2005
Saturday 27 August 2005

In 2005 Josh's birthday party was kicked back to the 27th of August. This wound up making swimming a little chillier than one might hope for. On a lighter note, this was the first time in two years that it didn't rain throughout the party!

Pizza and two cakes were consumed before we went swimming, and gosh darnit, we didn't wait a full thirty minutes either. After swimming we were getting hungry again, so we went to Taco Bell for the heck of it, went to a movie, and then ended the evening at Jeff and Erin's with some Tetris, much to Josh's chagrin. People seemed to have a fun time, which is always good to know.

Attendees: Josh Gulch, Jeff and Erin Osthimer, Marie Jarden, Paul Arquette, Chris Berry, Alisa Rowland, Andy Black, Katie Mihaly, and Felicity Powers.

Nobody will ever know who they are talking to.

It is actually Jeff I think. Katie and Felicity, early on in the madness.

Please note the suggestively placed Pepsi can It doesn't take long for Jeff to get naked and start talking to Paul.

It took his soul and put it in a box for developing later even though it was digital (the box not the soul) Paul has noticed the camera. His life will never be the same again.

Jeff notices that Paul is surrounded but does not know what to do about it People mingling. It is a public forum.

What more can I say?

It is a very large cookie OMG This was the cookie cake that Jeff & Erin brought. The Cyrillic writing was based on Josh's party invitations:

A cake fit for a real man This was the second cake. Andy picked it up, trying to find the most effeminate cake possible for me. Fruity, if you will. Marie touched it up with the text and dinosaur sprinkles.

Her, herself, and she Marie took a self portrait of her self, as she is sometimes given to do.

Paul! It is you who is being photograhed! If ever a man seemed caught off guard as much as Paul, then I ain't ever met him.

Maybe I didn't need to write a caption for this one Erin in preparation for cake and swimming (totally in that order as well).

It is a very festive headpiece Marie decided to start a tradition, introducing the birthday sombrero.

Seinfeld might be on TV but I can't tell very well Andy and Felicity in the midst of the insanity of preparing Josh to blow out candles on his cake.

I will refrain from making a joke concerning Andy and balls.

KLINGON translation, even! Josh during the singing of "Happy Birthday," which everybody sang in English despite Josh having provided translations in Russian, Swedish and Klingon.

If he looks disgruntled, he was. This is immediately following a period of angst and he hadn't come off it before being rushed headlong into the center of attention. He could have used a couple of minutes to chill out first.

They are all clever people, but I see through their plan Josh's friends cheer for him. But it's all a clever rouse to get cake.

Everybody probably thinks him a fool for this A combination of tradition and pyrophobia always drives Josh to extinguish his candles with a fan.

Berry eats a Jedi gordita After swimming some people left and the rest of us went to Taco Bell for dinner. There we were joined by Mr. Berry!

Being photographed in Burger King is okay though Paul does not like being photographed in Taco Bell! It is an insult to his people.

And that gallery will be the best of all Marie eats her dinner. Josh has this fascination with taking pictures of his friends eating that extends back to sixth grade camp. Maybe someday he will post a gallery of these pictures.

He knows where your children are Why, oh why is it so hard to get a picture of Jeff where he doesn't look emotionally unbalanced?

It's all science and swamp gas with Erin Erin, on the other hand, often photographs with a smile. Even when she's really frowning. It's the way light bends around her head. Weird stuff, that.

The angle is dramatic, not just awkward aim Josh completes the circle 'round the table with a self portrait of himself.

'Course, one could argue that you can't actually see a ring in this photo Erin took the camera. Jeff looks dreamily at Josh. Married men shouldn't be acting that way towards Josh, yo.

Are you lookin' at me? You must be 'cause there's nobody else here. Josh makes a face, part I.

Gudaaah... Josh makes a face, part II.

Do you like my smile? From my comment five pictures back, one might form the opinion that every photo of Erin features a cheerful, smiling, sunny lass. In breaking that theory to pieces, Erin shows off her ugly smile.

I could never get away with wearing shorts like that With dinner complete, we returned to Josh's house to figure out what to do next. We spent some time sitting at the curb like a bunch of thugs.

Josh again, ho-hum Yet another self portrait by Josh. You'd think he'd have had enough by now.

Berry breaks down Berry couldn't stand being outdoors for so long, and needed to use the Internet for the protective blanket that it is.

The wheels on Jeff's car go 'round and 'round We finally decided to go see "The Brothers Grimm," which was a decent enough movie. This was the thrilling car ride to the theater.

That's all, folks Following the movie we ended up at Jeff and Erin's for Tetris.

Mr. Berry sums up the feeling of the evening. Good fun was good had, good food was eaten, and the party was overall a success.
