Grubfest 2006
Saturday 10 June 2006

With the school denying Jeff the ability to carry out a full Grubfest on its premises, the end-of-the-school-year party was moved to his house. There his students gathered, both old and current, as well as a number of other rascals who were along for the ride. Much fun was had, much grilling was done, and much jumping was accomplished on the trampolines. The party was a hit.

Phil was supposed to have quit his job to come to the party, but he didn't. Instead he just got the day off. I suppose this is better but shows a lack of dedication on his behalf.

Jeff stretches extension cords across the backyard, creating a tripping hazard. I don't think anybody fell prey to the trap.

Josh should get a show on the Home & Garden Network so he can pose in front of more flora and fences.

Phil's awesome frog hat is capable of folding down to create a terrifying face demon.

Phil's transformation is complete.

James bought an Oozinator, an awesome and yet horribly disgusting slime-shooting gun. Needless to say, it's bound to be a collector's item someday. A test subject was required to be the first recipient of the ooze.

Well what did you expect? The dude got slime on his head.

James is pleased with himself, as well he ought to be. After all, he's got a gun that shoots slime wads, which is basically something that everyone who's seen Ghostbusters 2 has been waiting for.

James remains pleased, and it would be best if you were as well.

Charles meanders the backyard, surveying the scene of the slime shooting. A faint bleachy aroma lingered in the air. The bodies were gone but dark memories remained.

Katy is a gal who knows what is up with the world.

Mister Berry, the Czech Republic Internal Affairs Officer, pauses on the trampoline after returning from the party on an urgent mission to acquire the telephone number to the Czech embassy in Washington, DC.

Mister Berry entertains us once again with his Watto impression.

Jeff finally takes a moment to sit down and rest his tired dogs after grilling meat all afternoon.

Josh pretends to be contemplative when sitting with Sean and Berry.

These are people sitting on chairs with a dog nearby.

James remains proud of his ooze gun while Adam sits uncomfortably close.

Meanwhile, Josh continues to pretend that he is paying attention to Sean and Berry. He hasn't really been listening to anything they've been saying, instead devoting his attention to taking pictures of himself looking at them.

There was like this really weird group hug on the trampoline. I mean that in a way that I'm glad I wasn't involved, because the photos could ruin my political career somewhere down the line.

Katy took Josh's hat, and I daresay it works better on her than on him. But that's his self-esteem leaking through into what should be a third-person perspective.

Josh and Mister Berry had a George Lucas-Larry King interview, which included a reprisal of the Watto impression.

Eventually the party began splitting up into distinct factions. One such group moved to the basement to play Dance Dance Revolution, including Charles, who is unwittingly striking the Bigfoot pose.

Katy likes hamburgers and wants the entire world to know how happy she is about it. We should be happy, too.

Felicity and Charles play DDR, which has become the new Tetris.

As they continue the game, Felicity takes a risky moment to blink.

Josh takes a break from sucking at DDR to take another self portrait. You'd think he has enough of these by now.

Felicity takes the command chair to give the "engage" gesture.

The two Murrays, Katy and Sean, compete in DDR.

Charles eats his burger because Josh collects photos of his friends eating food.

Berry, Katy, Charles, Felicity, and Josh went to Meijer for silly string (and more pop I guess). The target of the silly string was clear: Jeff deserved the assault, having been such an accommodating host.

You know those camera they put on bombs and guns for those neat point-of-view shots of the weapon's effect? Well this is the same thing, with the camera stuck to the silly string can. This also demonstrates the flight trajectory of silly string after leaving the can, something that Felicity is not amused at but Charles may be.

Josh thinks he's all cool with his hat, but in reality he may be trying too hard.

PHIL + JAMES = BFF

Despite how utterly adorable this may be in some circles, the rest of us might think otherwise.

Katy bought this Koosh-type ball, with lights inside, which Charles now plays with. It smelled pretty potent, to the length that the smell came off on your hands and would not go away no matter how hard you washed them.
