Night Fourteen brought our long-running Battlestar Galactica Marathon to a close with the episodes "Faith," "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?," "Sine Qua Non," "The Hub," and "Revelations." The cliffhanger finale will be the last Galactica until 2009, leaving us all on edge about what happens next. Let the speculation begin!

This has been a truly fun marathon. We began on February 2 and, over the course of five and a half months, watched a three hour miniseries, sixty-three episodes, two minisode series, and a made-for-tv movie. That's a grand total of fifty-three hours of Galactica to bring us completely up-to-date.

This also means that I'm less iron-fisted about spoilers since they're no longer my business. So I can post the last seven minutes of the mid-season finale with the lovely Diaspora Oratorio. Dan missed today but he already watched this episode because he has no sense of waiting for the wedding night. Or some such analogy.

The first words of the Oratorio are "finis itineris," which translates into "journey's end." That's why I chose that phrase to place on the apron that I added to the marathon insignia today. I wanted to do something special to commemorate our journey over the past five months and the apron tab with that line seemed appropriate.

* * * * *

So what's next? What does life after Galactica curtail?

Well obviously I'll have a make-up day with Dan and these five episodes once he returns from Europe in some two weeks.

After that is the Original Series marathon. We'll be headin' back to the good ship Galactica to watch the original 1978 television series with Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch, and Dirk Benedict. It's like Star Wars and Star Trek getting it on and the lovechild somehow bears traits from Lost in Space. There is a handful of really good episodes and a handful of terribly bad episodes. Everything in between is watchable, but nowhere on par with the caliber of the new series that we just wrapped up.

More information as the start date approaches.

Looking even farther into the future, I will probably rerun some of tonight's episodes at the end of December/start of January in preparation for the series to resume around that time.

Next summer I will have a Season Four marathon to watch either all twenty episodes or, more likely, just the final ten of the series. After that the show's over.

Until the subsequent movies come out and we'll watch them too. This might go on a while.
• July 15, 2008.
Tonight was Night Thirteen of the ongoing Battlestar Galactica Marathon. This began Season Four with the episodes "He That Believeth in Me," "Six of One," "The Ties That Bind," "Escape Velocity," and "The Road Less Traveled."

We're now down to the final five episodes of the series-to-date. Our final outing in this marathon will be next Tuesday, July 22 at 6:30 PM. This is, as the hybrid says, "end of line."

Next week we'll watch the last lot of episodes up to the Season Four mid-season finale. After this everybody who decided to join us will be fully caught up on the entire series so far and will have to wait with the rest of us until the show picks back up in January.
• July 9, 2008.
Tonight we watched Night Twelve of the ongoing Galactica marathon. The short order for the evening consisted of the Razor Flashbacks minisodes before the feature, Razor.

Charles has been assigned as tech adviser for Season Four, since the DVDs have yet to be released. We are all counting on him.

The end is nigh, for next Tuesday is the penultimate night to this marathon.
• July 1, 2008.
Tonight was Night Eleven of the ongoing Battlestar Galactica Marathon, bringing Season Three to a close. We watched "Dirty Hands," "Maelstrom," "The Son Also Rises," "Crossroads, Pt. I," and "Crossroads, Pt II," the last of which has one of the greatest cliffhangers in television history. It's right up there with Riker giving the order to fire on Borg Picard good, only better.

Next Tuesday, July 8, we'll be watching Razor, the BSG movie that aired during the year-long hiatus twixt the two seasons. It'll be a shorter evening, all of slightly over two hours, so it may not be completely devoted to BSG. In any event, we'll be setting up to begin Season Four in two weeks' time.
• June 27, 2008.
Tonight we had Night 10 of the ongoing Battlestar Galactica Marathon, watching "The Eye of Jupiter," "Rapture," "Taking a Break From All Your Worries," "The Woman King," and "A Day in the Life." This leaves only one more night to finish off Season Three.

This also leaves us only four nights to go. This is the schedule to finish off the marathon:

Tuesday, July 1: Season Three, episodes 16-20 (Night 11 | 225 minutes)
Tuesday, July 8: Razor Flashbacks & Razor (Night 12 | 121 minutes)
Tuesday, July 15: Season Four, episodes 1-5 (Night 13 | 225 minutes)
Tuesday, July 22: Season Four, episodes 6-10 (Night 14 | 225 minutes)

That will bring us up to the current point in the series, the Season Four midseason cliffhanger that everybody will be dangling from until January 2009.

But dang, what a cliffhanger it is.

* Nights 11 and 14 necessitate Tuesday scheduling but 12 and 13 could be shifted to Thursdays if need be. Night 12 (Razor) will be shorter but its material is separate from the ongoing continuity.
• June 21, 2008.
Tonight we wrapped up the first half of Galactica's third season with "Collaborators," "Torn," "A Measure of Salvation," "Unfinished Business," and "The Passage." The next round of episodes is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26.

Dan, Paul, and Felicity will need to collaborate in order to get caught up on tonight's episodes.
• June 17, 2008.
Our seemingly unending marathon continues this Thursday at 6:00. Someday ... someday we'll finish this thing.
• June 12, 2008.
There's not gonna be any BSG tomorrow. Paul and Dan can't make it, Felicity's not caught up yet, and Charles is currently MIA. I'll report back when we reschedule.
• June 3, 2008.
Tonight we began the third season of Galactica, watching "The Resistance" webisodes, "Occupation," "Precipice," Exodus, Pt. I," and "Exodus, Pt. II." Exodus II is basically the most important hour of television ever made.

We're going to try shifting BSG to Thursdays, hoping that it will clear some scheduling issues that arose from the move to Mondays. We'll also be able to possibly begin a little earlier too. That means that Night Nine will be on Thursday, June 12.

I meant to post the season three trailer last week but just forgot, even though everybody now knows what happens and which moments were different in the broadcast episodes. Still, it was a good preview and the source of more than one away message.
• May 27, 2008.
Tonight we finished the second season of Battlestar Galactica, with the episodes "Scar," "Sacrifice," "The Captain's Hand," "Downloaded," "Lay Down Your Burdens, Pt. I," and "Lay Down Your Burdens, Pt. II." It's felt like so long since we began this season on March 16, but it's been a bloody good ride.

The question now arises: when do we begin season three?

That all depends on a) How soon I can get Felicity and Paul up to date, and b) How mean am I?

Given the shock over the season finale and the desire to begin season three right away, I could be a jerk and hold it over everybody's head.

Or we could eyeball next Monday at 7.

LOOKING AHEAD:
On our current five-episodes-every-Monday schedule, we will be caught up to season four on June 30, if no weeks are missed. The midseason hiatus looks like it will begin after the June 13 episode, with no hints as to how long it will be. Some sources say a few months, others up to a year. In any event we will continue the marathon to include the first half of season four. On this schedule we can get there by July 14, but rumors suggest that we won't have to rush.
• May 25, 2008.
Monday we'll be finishing off season two of Galactica starting around 6:00. We have six episodes -- one of which is 90 minutes long -- to get through this time and, dear god, it's worth it. Promises.
• May 20, 2008.
Tonight was night six of the ever-continuing Battlestar Galactica Marathon. We watched Pegasus, Resurrection Ship I, Resurrection Ship II, Epiphanies, and Black Market before calling it quits.

The next bunch is set for next Monday, May 26, at 5:00 PM.
• May 18, 2008.
Battlestar Galactica is being moved into the week. Monday at 7:00 will apparently be the next outing.
• May 4, 2008.
My brother Shawn is in town and the basement for the next week so I'm penciling in Night Six for Saturday, May 17. It may be possible to start earlier than 7:00, so I'll get back to you on the time.
• April 20, 2008.
Finally, is there interest in BSG this Saturday, April 26? Or is everyone too busy with end-of-school celebrations and exam study?

NOTE: BSG had to be canceled that weekend.
• April 4, 2008.
To the BSG nuggets, don't forget that it's two weeks until we pick up with the Season Two midseason premier on April 19.
• March 30, 2008.
Night Five of the Battlestar Galactica Marathon went very well indeed! We watched "The Farm," "Home, Part I," "Home, Part II," "Final Cut," "Flight of the Phoenix," and "Pegasus." We've gained two new Cylon models and a whole 'nother Battlestar. Good deal.

Night Six will encompass the next five episodes and is slated for Saturday, April 12.

Charles and I also watched Battle Royale before everybody else showed up. I recommend it but it's just a depressing ordeal. We also briefly tossed the idea of a Japanese film day back and forth. We'll see about that one.
• March 29, 2008.
Just as a reminder:

Battlestar Galactica, Night Five is today -- March 29.

Galactica begins at 7:00. Pre-BSG at 4:00.

We have to watch six episodes to meet quota since we gotta watch "The Farm" again.
• March 20, 2008.
It shall be necessary to change our plans this weekend.

There will be no Battlestar Galactica. Night Five will be on Saturday, March 29.
• March 16, 2008.
We just wrapped up Night Four of the Galactica Marathon, watching the first five episodes of Season Two: "Scattered," "Valley of Darkness," "Fragged," "Resistance," and "The Farm."

Night Five is penciled in for next Saturday, March 22.

The line up is to rewatch "The Farm" for those who missed, plus the following five episodes to bring us up to the midseason break.

Felicity and Charles should contact me to schedule a make-up day.
• March 13, 2008.
I know it's a little short notice but things were only recently established for this:

Battlestar Galactica on Saturday, March 15 at 7:00.

The first five episodes from Season Two.

Sorry for not announcing sooner.
• March 2, 2008.
We finished the first season of Battlestar Galactica tonight, even though only Paul and Dan stuck around 'till the end.

Today's run called for seven episodes to finish out the season: Six Degrees of Separation, Flesh and Bone, Tigh Me Up Tigh Me Down, The Hand of God, Colonial Day, Kobol's Last Gleaming Pt. I, and Kobol's Last Gleaming Pt II. Seven episodes is a lot but I felt it best to include the cliffhanger finale with this batch. Season two will be much easier to break up into easier-to-manage five-hour chunks, which will pace out perfectly.

We don't have a date yet for the next day of the marathon.

As a little note, while I was pretty lenient about make-up days and reruns during season one, I'm going to start cracking down. This is because I wound up watching most of the first season three separate times in the past month. Each time someone misses for whatever reason means another day of me having to rewatch everything. So if you're going to be participating in this marathon then please commit yourself to watching it. It's not that I don't enjoy spending quality time with you lovely people but please get on track and join the rest of us during the predesignated marathon time, which is usually posted weeks in advance.
• February 24, 2008.
We just wrapped up day two of the Battlestar Galactica marathon and ye, it was good.

Joined by Charles, Paul, James, Ryan, and Carey, we plugged our merry way through just five episodes: "Water," "Bastille Day," "Act of Contrition," "You Can't Go Home Again," and "Litmus." We earnestly plan to crack down next time and not spend so much time goofing off between episodes. That way we can neatly finish off the last seven episodes of season one in a single evening.

We're currently eyeballing next Saturday, March 1 as the date of Day Three. That's also the start of spring break, so additional days may crop up throughout the week.
• February 16, 2008.
No Galactica today because nobody is going to show up. Maybe next week.
• February 3, 2008.
Tonight kicked off our Galactica marathon. We sat through the miniseries, that three-hour long snoozefest. By sat through I mean to say that we took three breaks throughout, but we finally got through it in time to start the series by watching "33." The miniseries is the pits; the series is the awesome.

Anyhoo, Night Two has been scheduled for Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 PM.

Some members of our normal group had to miss tonight, so I may offer a Night One Rerun within the next two weeks.

The Cylons were created by man.

They rebelled.

They evolved.

And they have a plan.

Launching today.
• January 28, 2008.
The Battlestar Galactica Marathon is to begin this coming Saturday, which is February 2. The start time hasn't been decided yet, though. Probably 4 or 5 PM.
• January 21, 2008.
Maybe I should begin looking at my schedule when I go about planning upcoming events.

I have a paper due next Monday for a book I'm not even half through, so I'll probably be spending next Saturday working on that stuff.

Meaning that I gotta push the BSG marathon back one more week, to Saturday, February 2. The highlight of doing so is that it realigns the BSG schedule so that it isn't in conjunction with my paper-writing schedule, each one happening every other week or so. That way I can dedicate as much of the weekend to BSG as necessary without worrying about pending schoolwork.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
• January 20, 2008.
The much-delayed Battlestar Galactica marathon! We've decided to begin next Saturday, January 26. I'll have a time as the week progresses.

This gives us almost ten weeks until Season Four begins in April. The current plan is to have a session every other week, unless we need to double up a bit to get more watched.
• January 16, 2008.
The Battlestar Galactica Marathon ought to be getting underway soon. How available are people on say, every other weekend or so?
• January 1, 2008.
Yesterday the movie sites announced March 25th as the release date for the season 3 box set, so I may start pushing the marathon at the end of January/start of February depending on peoples' schedules. This is the one people have pestered me about the most so it will receive the most planning and attention. Here's the marathon's insignia.
• May 6, 2007.
It's time to have a Battlestar Galactica Marathon. This will consist of all three seasons of the new series. In its entirety it's about sixty hours long, but for the sake of everybody I suspect that we'll be breaking it into six to eight hour chunks. Anybody who's interested, let me know what days and times are good for you.

See? I'm working on the marathon, so stop pushing. The show's not going anywhere for a while.
• December 16, 2006.
The decision is made that a Battlestar Galactica marathon would be an appropriate thing to have.
